Dr Shema Tariq

Dr Shema Tariq is a Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV and a researcher specialising in women’s health, HIV, and qualitative methods. She graduated in Medicine from Newcastle University in 1999 and completed her specialist training at Barts and the Royal London in 2014. She holds Masters degrees in Medical Anthropology and Epidemiology, and a PhD from City, University of London.

Shema leads the NIHR-funded PRIME study at UCL, one of the largest global studies on HIV and menopause, and currently leads qualitative research within the CASCADE and VERDI collaborations. She is a former Vice-Chair of the British HIV Association’s pregnancy guidelines, Chair of BASHH’s Lay Research Panel, and a Trustee of Positively UK and Tommy’s.
